Modern Romance emerged in the summer of 1981 and achieved 8 UK hit singles and three albums. The band was extremely popular on an international level. Amongst the countries to be drawn to the Latin sound for which the band became known were: Spain, Italy, Sweden, Holland, Belgium and Greece.

In the Far East, the single “Walking in the Rain” reached No.1.

The album “Adventures in Clubland” was No.1 in Venezuela, for which the band received a gold disc. They also achieved success in various other parts of Latin America. The single “Can You Move” reached No. 1 in the U.S. dance charts.

Best Years of Our Lives also attained Gold status.

Since reforming in 1999 under the guidance of vocalist and original member, Andy Kyriacou, the band have performed in various UK venues alongside a host of other 80s stars, including ABC, Tony Hadley, Marc Almond, Go West, and Aswaad, to name but a few.
The band have continued to record and release new material, yet still retaining the Latin flavour which brought them their initial success.

A bonus for the band in 2001, was the release of the movie, “Shrek”, the animated film from Dreamworks. The boost for the guys was the inclusion on the soundtrack of a cover version of their song, “Best Years of Our Lives”.

Despite the passing of time, the band has maintained its reputation for being very lively, & for having fun on stage, whilst also being superb, musically. Band members have toured and recorded with the likes of Tony Hadley, Whitney Houston, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Level 42, Sean Escoffery, Boy George, Alexander O’Neal, Lemar, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, and an array of other big names.

Andy is at present looking to publish his autobiography, a significant part of which is based on diaries he kept during his time with the band in the ‘80s. It promises to be quite entertaining….
